IS BITSTARZ SAFE? LICENCE, PAYOUTS AND COMPLAINTS

BitStarz is a legitimate, licensed casino, not a scam. It has run since 2014, is operated by Gareton B.V. under Curaçao licence OGL/2024/165/0185, and holds a 9.8/10 Safety Index at Casino Guru and 4.3/5 on Trustpilot. The real cautions are a 79-country block list, KYC at withdrawal, and provably-fair Originals that only BitStarz's own in-game tool can check, because no result formula is published (checked 24 Oct 2026).

Before you sign up, check two things: that you are on the casino’s official domain (lookalike sites are common), and its public complaint record next to its deposit volume.

Key Facts

  • ✓ Operator: Gareton B.V., Curaçao company no. 160656; licence OGL/2024/165/0185 (Curaçao Gaming Authority), stated in terms last updated 25 June 2025.
  • ✓ Live since 2014; Casino Guru and AskGamblers both record the same founding year and the same operating company (read 6 October 2026).
  • ✓ Casino Guru Safety Index 9.8 "Very high", 5 complaints and 275 black points on file; AskGamblers 26 complaints with a 1-day average response.
  • ✓ Trustpilot 4.3/5 from 5,431 reviews, 77% five-star, 15% one-star; profile claimed since November 2019.
  • ✓ Terms clause 3.6 bars deposits and real-money play from 79 jurisdictions including the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Netherlands, Brazil and Russia; NetEnt titles are separately blacklisted in Australia (clause 4.3.2).
  • ✓ Withdrawals target "within 1 hour" (clause 8.7.1); large wins may be paid "in monthly installments" (8.7.3); a minimum 5 EUR monthly fee applies after six months of inactivity (13.1).

Is BitStarz Licensed, and by Whom?

The operator named at the top of BitStarz’s terms and conditions is Gareton B.V., a Curaçao company registered under number 160656 at Landhuis Zuikertuin, Zuikertuintjeweg z/n, Willemstad. The same clause states that Gareton B.V. is licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Authority under licence OGL/2024/165/0185. The homepage footer repeats that number and adds a Cyprus payment entity, Firmero Limited (HE 449597, Limassol), which handles card and fiat processing for some regions.

The "OGL" prefix matters. It is the licence format introduced by Curaçao’s National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK), which replaced the old master-licence and sub-licence system. A search snippet of the regulator’s certificate for licence 0185 shows it was issued to Gareton B.V. on 8 July 2024 and covers bitstarz.com along with several mirror domains. We could not open that certificate directly on 6 October 2026: the Curaçao Gaming Authority’s online gaming portal, which hosts the public register, has been offline since late September 2026 after an unauthorised-access incident. The regulator’s 2 October 2026 notice states that the outage "does not affect the validity of existing licenses". So the licence number is on the operator’s own pages and in two independent databases, but a live register check was not possible on publication day.

Two further points of reference: Casino Guru lists the owner and operator as Gareton B.V. with "Established 2014", and AskGamblers lists "Licences: Curacao Gaming Control Board, Company: Gareton B.V., Established 2014". The three sources agree, which is the pattern you want to see.

Dama N.V., Direx N.V. and Gareton B.V.: Who Actually Runs BitStarz?

Search results for BitStarz still surface the names Dama N.V. and Direx N.V. Both appear in older reviews and in archived player complaints (an AskGamblers complaint from Denmark, for example, refers to BitStarz as one of "2 Direx N.V. casinos"). Those were the operating companies named in earlier versions of the terms. As of the terms dated 25 June 2025 the operator is Gareton B.V., and that is the name you should expect to see on any current licence seal, support email or payment descriptor. An operating-company change is not in itself a red flag; it is common across Curaçao brands that re-papered their licences under the LOK framework in 2024. What you should check is that the company on the site matches the company on the licence, and here it does.

The brand itself has been continuous since 2014, which is unusual in crypto gambling. Casino Guru estimates annual revenues above EUR 100 million, placing BitStarz in its "very big" size tier, and notes that relative to that size it has "a very low value of denied payouts in player complaints". Our own BitStarz review scores it 8.6/10. BitStarz is not tracked by Tanzanite (30 days to 26 Oct 2026), so we publish no deposit-volume figure for it.

Does BitStarz Pay Out?

The withdrawal clauses are specific. Clause 8.7.1 says BitStarz "shall try to pay out withdrawals within 1 hour, however in some cases, withdrawals may take longer". The site’s own marketing quotes an average crypto withdrawal of around 10 minutes; we have not timed this ourselves and treat it as operator copy. There is no daily, weekly or monthly cap in the terms; an AskGamblers support transcript quotes a BitStarz agent confirming they "don’t set overall withdrawal limits over time" but do apply per-transaction limits shown on the payments page. Casino Guru records withdrawal limits as "Unlimited" across EUR, USD, BTC, ETH, USDT and other currencies.

Two clauses deserve a careful read before you deposit a large sum. Clause 8.7.3 reserves the right "to payout substantial wins in monthly installments". Clause 8.7.4 allows additional verification during withdrawal processing, including passport or ID copies, utility bills and copies of deposit cards. In practice that means a big win can be paid over several months and will almost certainly trigger full KYC.

KYC itself is described in section 7: a government-issued photo ID, proof of payment showing the sum and account holder, and proof of address no older than 90 days (clause 7.2.3). Failure to provide documents blocks withdrawals and can lead to suspension. The review notes that smaller crypto withdrawals have historically gone through without documents; the terms give the casino the right to ask at any point.

What Do Players Complain About?

Trustpilot, read 6 October 2026, shows a 4.3/5 TrustScore from 5,431 reviews: 77% five-star and 15% one-star, on a profile claimed in November 2019 with no fake-review flag displayed. The one-star reviews from September and October 2026 cluster around three themes: accounts closed with balances withheld after verification disputes; frustration with the "Piggyz Mania" promotion and its 30-day forfeiture of accumulated bonuses; and bonus winnings cancelled over max-bet breaches, including one claim of EUR 30,000 voided. These are allegations by individual reviewers, not adjudicated findings, but the max-bet theme matches a documented term: the welcome package carries 40x wagering on a seven-day clock with a EUR 5 maximum bet, which is where most confiscations originate.

Casino Guru holds 5 complaints and 275 black points against BitStarz and states that after reading the terms "there are no rules or clauses that could be viewed as unfair or exploitative". AskGamblers lists 26 complaints with a one-day average response and a 10/10 CasinoRank, with a player rating of 8.8/10 from 633 reviews. The complaint volume is low for a casino of this size; the recurring risk is bonus-term breaches, not unpaid clean withdrawals.

Which Countries Does BitStarz Block?

Clause 3.6 of the terms is the authoritative list, and it is long. Players from the following are "not allowed to deposit and play real money games", in fiat or crypto: United States of America, Puerto Rico, Greece, United Kingdom and its overseas territories, Isle of Man, Jersey, Gibraltar, Spain, France and its overseas territories, Netherlands, Israel, Lithuania, Slovakia, Belgium, Dutch West Indies, Angola, Albania, Iraq, Jamaica, Uganda, Pakistan, Iran, Panama, Lebanon, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Yemen, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Sudan, Liberia, Syria, Cayman Islands, Somalia, Congo, North Korea, Eritrea, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Myanmar, South Sudan, Burkina Faso, Libya, Mali, Barbados, Rwanda, Czech Republic, Serbia, Cuba, Portugal, Georgia, Hungary, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Poland, Romania, Cyprus, Brazil, Russia and Curaçao.

Australia is not in clause 3.6, but clause 4.3.2 blacklists all NetEnt games in Australia, the UK, the US and roughly 45 other territories, and individual branded slots carry their own extra lists. Clause 3.7 warns that the casino "cannot guarantee successful processing of withdrawals or refunds" if you deposit from a restricted country. Playing from a blocked jurisdiction through a VPN is the single most common way a legitimate casino ends up confiscating a balance, so check the list before registering, and see our crypto gambling legality guide for the country-by-country position.

Is BitStarz a Scam?

No. A scam, in the sense that matters to a depositor, is a site that takes money and either disappears or refuses to pay as policy. BitStarz has operated under the same brand for twelve years, publishes its operating company and licence number, has a complaint record that two independent databases describe as low relative to its size, and its terms contain no clause that Casino Guru classes as predatory. The counter-evidence is a 15% one-star share on Trustpilot and a cluster of 2026 reviews about closed accounts and voided bonus wins. Those are real experiences, but they describe enforcement of published rules (max bet, KYC, single-account) rather than refusal to pay on clean play.

What BitStarz is not is independently verifiable. It runs 18 in-house BitStarz Originals that it labels provably fair, with an in-game seed checker: you save the hashed server seed and client seed, then reveal and verify the bet in-game (BitStarz fairness-tool guide, read 24 Oct 2026). But BitStarz publishes no hash function, nonce handling or result formula, so no independent tool, ours included, can recompute a round; only BitStarz's own checker can. The third-party titles that make up the rest of the 4,500-plus lobby rest on provider RNG certification, which is the industry norm but a weaker standard than the seed-based proofs we explain in our provably fair casinos guide. If verifiability is your priority, this is the gap.

How Does BitStarz Compare?

Against the crypto-native field, BitStarz trades verifiability for longevity. Stake and Shuffle run provably fair originals whose published schemes our verifier reproduces; BitStarz's Originals can be checked only with its own in-game tool, but it has a decade of payout history and a Trustpilot score most crypto brands cannot match. For the bonus mechanics, the EUR 5 max bet and the current welcome structure, see the BitStarz promo code page. For game-specific coverage, our BitStarz slots and BitStarz blackjack pages cover what the library actually holds. The best crypto casinos ranking places it against the whole field by deposit volume.

Practical advice if you play here: complete KYC before your first large withdrawal rather than after a win, read the max-bet rule before accepting any bonus, and keep a screenshot of clause 3.6 confirming your country is permitted. Those three steps remove almost every complaint pattern in the 2026 reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

BitStarz is legit. It has operated continuously since 2014, is run by Gareton B.V. under Curaçao licence OGL/2024/165/0185, and as of 6 October 2026 holds a 9.8/10 Safety Index at Casino Guru and a 4.3/5 Trustpilot score from 5,431 reviews. It is not a scam, but its terms allow monthly instalment payouts of large wins and full KYC at withdrawal, and its welcome bonus carries a EUR 5 maximum bet that is the source of most confiscation complaints.
The current operator is Gareton B.V., a Curaçao company registered under number 160656. Older reviews and archived complaints name Dama N.V. and, earlier, Direx N.V. as the operating companies, but BitStarz’s terms dated 25 June 2025 and the company records at Casino Guru and AskGamblers all name Gareton B.V. The brand has been the same since 2014; only the licensed entity has changed.
BitStarz can request KYC at any time and typically does before larger withdrawals. Section 7 of its terms lists a government photo ID, proof of payment and proof of address no older than 90 days. Clause 8.7.4 adds that the payments team may ask for extra documents during withdrawal processing. Small crypto cash-outs have historically gone through without documents, but the right to ask is always there.
Clause 3.6 of the terms blocks real-money play from 79 jurisdictions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Israel, Czech Republic, Portugal, Poland, Brazil, Russia and Curaçao itself. Australia is not on that list, but NetEnt titles are separately blacklisted there and in roughly 45 other territories. Depositing from a blocked country risks a voided balance.
Partly. BitStarz runs 18 in-house BitStarz Originals that it labels provably fair, with an in-game seed checker: you save the hashed server seed and client seed, then reveal and verify the bet in-game (BitStarz pages read 24 Oct 2026). But it publishes no hash function, nonce handling or result formula, so no independent tool, ours included, can recompute a round. Its third-party games rely on provider RNG certification. Either way, you cannot independently recompute an outcome the way you can at Stake or Shuffle.
