STAKE PUMP STRATEGY & ODDS

Pump is one of the newest Stake Originals: you inflate a balloon one pump at a time, the multiplier rises with each successful pump, and you must cash out before the balloon bursts. It has a sourced 98% RTP and a headline maximum of 3,203,384.80x on Expert. Because the game is new, accurate coverage barely exists — so this guide walks through how a provably-fair check of a Pump round works, explains the four difficulty pop chances honestly, and shows with the math why cashing out is the only decision that matters.

How Stake Pump Works

You start a round, choose a difficulty, and pump the balloon. Each successful pump nudges the multiplier higher; at any moment you can hit cash out and bank the current multiplier times your bet. But one of the pumps will burst the balloon, and if you pump into the burst you lose the round. Mechanically it is a cousin of Crash and our Limbo guide — a single rising-multiplier decision where the only variable you control is when to stop.

When you hover a pump, Stake shows two numbers: the multiplier you would lock in and the percentage chance that the next pump succeeds. Those success percentages are derived from the provably-fair outcome, and they fall as the multiplier climbs — the deeper you go, the more likely the next pump is the fatal one.

Stake Pump RTP & House Edge

Pump returns 98% to players, a 2% house edge. As with all of these games, the edge is built into the multiplier ladder: each step's payout sits slightly below the fair inverse of the cumulative survival probability, so the house keeps 2% on average no matter how far you pump or which difficulty you pick.

The four difficulties do not change that 2% — they change how the burst is distributed. Easy bursts rarely and at low multipliers; Expert can survive into the millions but bursts early far more often. The maximum multiplier of 3,203,384.80x is only reachable on Expert, and only by surviving an extraordinarily improbable run of safe pumps.

The Four Difficulty Tiers & Pop Chances

Difficulty sets the volatility by controlling how many "safe" pumps sit before the guaranteed burst, which in turn sets the per-pump success chance. Higher difficulty = fewer safe pumps available at any moment = a higher pop chance per pump, but a far steeper multiplier if you survive.

DifficultyVolatilityEarly pop chanceMultiplier growthBest for
EasyLowLow per pumpGentle, frequent small cash-outsSteady play, long sessions
MediumModerateModerateFaster climb, more burst riskBalanced risk/reward
HardHighHighSteep multipliers, frequent early burstsBigger swings
ExpertExtremeHighest per pumpReaches up to 3,203,384.80xLottery-style moonshots only

The mechanism underneath is simple to reason about. If a difficulty leaves k safe pumps remaining out of n possible positions, the chance the next pump is safe is k/n, and that ratio shrinks every time you pump successfully (one fewer safe slot, one fewer position). On Expert the starting pool is configured so that the very long tail — surviving dozens of pumps — is what produces the 3.2-million-x ceiling, at a correspondingly microscopic probability.

Provably Fair Verification: Reproducing the Burst Point

Pump is provably fair, so the burst is not a server deciding to end your run when you are ahead — it is fixed in advance by the seed pair and revealed afterwards. The three inputs are the server seed (committed as a hash before play), your client seed, and the nonce. The derivation (our verifier runs the same HMAC and float steps for other Stake games, but has no Pump mode):

  • 1
Build the HMAC. HMAC_SHA256(serverSeed, "clientSeed:nonce:0") yields a 32-byte hash, fixed before your first pump.
  • 2
Bytes to floats. Read the hash four bytes at a time into decimals in [0,1) via b₀/256 + b₁/256² + b₂/256³ + b₃/256⁴, rolling the cursor to a fresh hash if more numbers are needed.
  • 3
Select the burst position. The floats are mapped — with a Fisher-Yates style shuffle over the available pump slots for the chosen difficulty — to determine which slot holds the burst. This is the same shuffle family Stake uses for Mines and Dragon Tower egg placement.
  • 4
Derive the cash-out ladder. Every multiplier and the displayed per-pump success percentage follow from that fixed burst position. Re-running steps 1–3 from your revealed seeds reproduces the identical burst point, proving it was set before you pumped.

Because the server-seed hash was published before the round and you chose the client seed, the burst slot is a pure function of values locked in advance. The casino cannot move the burst earlier because you cashed out late, and you cannot push it later by pumping carefully — the outcome was already written. That is exactly what the verification reproduces.

Verify It Yourself, Free

Recompute the burst slot with Stake’s own verifier, or run the steps above yourself. If it matches your round, the burst was provably honest. Our verifier can confirm the server-seed commitment, but has no Pump mode.

Reading the Pop Chance Honestly

The displayed success percentage is the single most useful number on screen, and it is worth understanding rather than ignoring. Because the burst slot is fixed and the safe slots deplete as you pump, the per-pump success chance is a falling staircase: high at the start, dropping with each pump you survive. On Easy that staircase descends gently, so you can string many pumps together for a modest multiplier. On Expert it drops steeply — the early pumps already carry real burst risk, which is the price of the enormous ceiling.

A frequent mistake is treating a high current multiplier as evidence the balloon is "safe" because it has survived so long. The opposite is true: every successful pump removes a safe slot, so a balloon that has survived deep into a round is closer to its burst, not further from it. The percentage tells you this directly — watch it fall and let it, not your nerve, decide the next pump.

How Pump Compares to Crash and Limbo

Pump sits in the same family as Crash and Limbo: a single rising multiplier you must exit before it ends. The 98% RTP matches Crash and is a touch below the 99% of Limbo and the Wheel. Where Pump differs is the explicit, per-step probability readout — Crash hides the bust point behind a climbing curve, whereas Pump hands you the exact success chance for the next pump, making it arguably the most transparent of the three about the risk you are taking on each decision.

That transparency does not change the edge — all of these games are negative-EV by design — but it does make Pump easier to play with discipline, because the cost of greed is quantified in front of you. If you find Crash's blind cash-out timing stressful, Pump's labelled odds are a gentler way to play the same rising-multiplier idea.

Pump Strategies (and the Honest Math)

The honest version first: no Pump strategy changes the 2% house edge. The burst position is set by HMAC-SHA256 before you touch the balloon, so no pumping rhythm, difficulty switch, or bet pattern can move your expected value. The only real decision is your cash-out target.

Pre-Set a Cash-Out Multiplier

Decide the multiplier you will cash at before the round — for example "Easy, cash at 1.5x, every time." The deeper you intend to pump, the lower your probability of getting there, but the bigger the payout if you do. Picking the target in advance removes the in-the-moment greed that bursts most balloons one pump too late.

Match Difficulty to Goal

Use Easy for frequent small wins and long sessions; reserve Expert for deliberate lottery shots at the 3.2-million-x tail, staking only throwaway amounts. Switching to a harder difficulty does not improve EV — it raises both the ceiling and the pop chance in lockstep.

Flat Bet + Stop-Loss (Most Practical)

As in every one of our guides, the approach the math actually supports is flat betting 1–2% of your bankroll with a preset profit target and stop-loss. Progressive systems do not beat a negative-EV game; they just reach the 2% edge faster, and Pump's fast rounds make that especially easy to do.

Key Takeaways

  • 1. Pump RTP is 98% with a 2% house edge, identical across all four difficulties.
  • 2. Max payout is 3,203,384.80x, reachable only on Expert at a microscopic probability.
  • 3. Pop chance rises per pump: the displayed success % falls as the multiplier climbs, by design.
  • 4. The burst point is HMAC-SHA256 driven and shuffled — fixed before your first pump, fully verifiable.
  • 5. Only your cash-out target is a real choice; no strategy beats the 2% edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stake Pump has a 98% RTP and a 2% house edge. The edge is built into the multiplier ladder and is the same on every difficulty — Easy through Expert differ in volatility, not in expected return.
The maximum is 3,203,384.80x, available only on Expert difficulty. Reaching it requires surviving an extraordinarily improbable run of successful pumps, which is why Expert also bursts early far more often than the lower difficulties.
Difficulty controls volatility by setting how many safe pumps are available, which fixes the per-pump pop chance. Easy bursts rarely and at low multipliers; Expert has the highest pop chance per pump but the steepest multiplier growth. The 98% RTP is unchanged across all four.
Yes. The burst position is derived from HMAC_SHA256(serverSeed, "clientSeed:nonce:0"): the hash is converted to floats and shuffled over the pump slots to fix where the balloon bursts. After you retire the seed, recompute the burst point with Stake’s own verifier or the published algorithm; our provably fair verifier checks the server-seed commitment but has no Pump mode.
No. The burst is set cryptographically before your first pump, so no pumping pattern or difficulty choice changes the 2% house edge. The only meaningful decision is your cash-out target. Flat betting with a preset profit target and stop-loss is the approach the math supports.
Decide your cash-out multiplier before the round and stick to it. The further you pump, the lower your chance of getting there but the larger the payout. A pre-set target removes the in-the-moment greed that causes most players to pump one step into the burst.
