WHAT IS A DEPOSIT MATCH?

A deposit match is a casino bonus in which the operator adds a percentage of your deposit as bonus funds, up to a stated cap: "100% up to $500" turns a $200 deposit into $400 of playable balance. The matched money is locked behind a wagering requirement, and the percentage says nothing about how much you will ever withdraw.

How the match is calculated

Three numbers define the offer: the percentage, the maximum bonus, and the minimum deposit. Deposit $200 on "100% up to $500" and you get $200; deposit $800 and you get $500, because the cap binds. Crypto casinos often advertise bigger percentages, 150% to 300%, in exchange for heavier terms. The bonus is normally sticky and cannot be withdrawn itself, only the winnings generated once the wagering requirement is complete. Whether that requirement multiplies the bonus alone or deposit plus bonus is the single largest driver of cost.

Numeric example: $200 deposit, 100% match, 40x on the bonus: $200 x 40 = $8,000 of turnover. At a 4% house edge the expected loss over $8,000 is $320, which exceeds the $200 bonus, so the offer has an expected value of about minus $120. If the 40x applies to deposit plus bonus the turnover doubles to $16,000 and the expected loss to $640. A 200% match on the same terms gives $400 of bonus for $16,000 of turnover: twice the bonus, twice the cost, same negative result.

Welcome, reload, package: the same mechanic

The offer appears as "welcome bonus", "first deposit bonus", "match bonus", "reload bonus" (for later deposits) or inside a "welcome package" that spreads matches across the first three or four deposits. The terms attach the rest: the multiplier, the game weighting table, the max bet, the expiry window and any max cashout. A match bonus with a bonus code must usually be entered at deposit time; forgetting it means the deposit lands without the bonus and support rarely applies it retroactively.

Break-even multiplier and when a match is worth taking

The headline percentage is marketing; the wagering multiplier and the game edge set the value. As a rule of thumb, a bonus breaks even when the multiplier times the house edge equals 100%: at a 4% edge that is 25x, at 2% it is 50x. Anything above the break-even multiplier is expected to cost you more than it gives, and most crypto casino matches sit at 35x to 50x. The match still has value for a player who would deposit anyway and wants more variance per dollar, or who can clear it on a high-RTP game with 100% weighting. Price a specific offer with the bonus calculator, read the bonus expected value guide, and compare live matches on the crypto casino bonuses page.

Deposit Match FAQ

What does 100% deposit match mean?

The casino adds bonus funds equal to 100% of your deposit, up to the stated maximum. A $150 deposit on a 100% up to $500 offer gives $150 in bonus; a $1,000 deposit gives $500 because the cap applies.

Is a 200% deposit bonus better than 100%?

Not automatically. A larger match usually comes with the same or higher wagering multiplier, so the required turnover and expected cost scale up with it. Compare the multiplier, weighting and max bet before the percentage.

Can I withdraw a deposit match bonus?

Not the bonus itself. You can withdraw winnings once the wagering requirement is cleared, and with most sticky bonuses the matched amount is removed at withdrawal. Your original deposit is usually withdrawable if you forfeit the bonus.

Does wagering apply to deposit and bonus?

It depends on the terms. Many casinos multiply the bonus only (40x bonus); others multiply deposit plus bonus (40x D+B), which doubles the turnover on a 100% match. The terms state which, often in one short line.
