WHAT IS A CLIENT SEED?
A client seed is the player-side random string that a provably fair casino combines with its secret server seed and a bet counter (the nonce) to produce each game result. Because you can set it to any value before betting, the operator cannot precompute outcomes in advance: changing the client seed changes every result that follows.
How the client seed enters the result
A typical provably fair implementation computes HMAC-SHA256 with the server seed as the key and the string "clientSeed:nonce" as the message, then converts the first few bytes of the output into the game outcome. The server seed is fixed and hashed before you play; the client seed is yours; the nonce increments by one per bet. Casinos generate a random client seed for you by default, but the fairness tab lets you type your own, and a new value takes effect from the next bet. Rotating the pair also reveals the old server seed so the history can be checked.
Finding and changing it in the fairness panel
The fairness or "provably fair" panel on any originals game shows the active client seed, the hashed next server seed, the current nonce and a "change seeds" or "rotate" button. Bet detail pages list the exact client seed and nonce used for that round, which is what you paste into a verifier. Some casinos call it the "player seed" or "user seed". The concept is explained alongside the server side on the provably fair entry and in the how provably fair works guide; the provably fair verifier and the Stake seed checker accept all three inputs.
What a client seed can and cannot do for you
Setting your own client seed is what makes the proof yours rather than the casino's: with a default seed the operator at least theoretically chose both inputs. It does not change the odds. A dice game with a 1% house edge pays 99% whether your seed is "abc" or a 64-character hex string, and there is no lucky seed, because the HMAC output is uniformly distributed regardless of the input. That is also why "predictor" tools that claim to forecast the next roll from your seed are scams; the server seed they would need is exactly the value kept hidden, as the mines predictor scam write-up shows. Change your client seed when you start a session, rotate before you verify, and treat any casino that does not let you edit it as not provably fair in the full sense.
Client Seed FAQ
What is a client seed in Stake?
It is the player-side input to the provably fair formula on Stake Originals and similar games. Stake sets a random one by default and lets you edit it in the fairness settings; combined with the server seed and nonce it determines every result.
Should I change my client seed?
Yes, at least once per session. A seed you typed yourself guarantees the casino did not control both inputs. Changing it mid-session is harmless; it simply starts a new result sequence from the next bet.
Does the client seed affect my odds?
No. The seed selects which sequence of random outcomes you get, not how favourable they are. The house edge and payout table are the same for every seed, so no seed is luckier than another.
Can I pick a lucky client seed?
There is no such thing. The hash function produces a uniform distribution for any input, and the server seed you would need to engineer an outcome is hidden until after the bets are placed.
