IS STAKE.US SAFE AND LEGAL? SWEEPS RULES BY STATE

Stake.us is a legitimate sweepstakes social casino, not a scam, but it holds no gambling licence because the model is designed not to need one. It is lawful only in states that have not banned dual-currency sweepstakes; Stake.us’s own help centre lists 22 restricted states as of 10 July 2026. Trustpilot rates it 4.4/5 from 18,705 reviews.

Before you sign up, check two things: that you are on the casino’s official domain (lookalike sites are common), and its public complaint record next to its deposit volume.

Key Facts

  • ✓ Model: Gold Coins for play with no cash value; Stake Cash is the sweepstakes entry redeemable for prizes at roughly 1 SC = $1 (help centre, updated 19 November 2025).
  • ✓ Restricted states, per Stake.us help centre on 10 July 2026: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia.
  • ✓ Minimum age 21, "as outlined in our Terms of Service" (help centre article dated 18 November 2023).
  • ✓ Identity verification via Veriff is required to redeem; it exists to confirm state of residence and age.
  • ✓ Trustpilot 4.4/5 from 18,705 reviews, 76% five-star, 8% one-star; profile claimed December 2022.
  • ✓ Stake Originals (Dice, Crash, Plinko, Mines, Limbo) are provably fair; the help centre points players to third-party verifiers as well as its own calculator (article updated 27 August 2025).

Is Stake.us Legal, and Why Has It No Licence?

Stake.us is not a licensed casino and does not claim to be one. It is a sweepstakes social casino: you play with Gold Coins, which the help centre describes as "a virtual currency with no monetary value", and with Stake Cash, "also a virtual token with no monetary value" that can nonetheless be redeemed for prizes once you meet the rules. Because Stake Cash can be obtained free (daily login bonus, promotions, and a postal request route), the operator’s position is that no consideration is paid for the chance to win, so the activity falls outside state definitions of gambling. That is a structural legal argument, not a state licence. No US gaming regulator has issued Stake.us a licence, and no regulator supervises its redemptions.

This is also why Stake.us is a different product from Stake.com. Stake.com is a Curaçao-licensed real-money crypto casino and sportsbook that excludes the United States in its own terms. Stake.us has no sportsbook, no crypto wagering and no real-money bets. If you came here from a search about "Stake" in the US, read our Stake casino safety guide for the international site and this page for the US one; the two share a brand and a games library, nothing else.

Which States Block Stake.us?

The authoritative list is Stake.us’s own help-centre article "Restricted states on the platform", last updated 10 July 2026. It names 22 states the platform cannot serve: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Maine, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and West Virginia. That leaves 28 states where registration is possible. The article refers readers to section 2.1 of the terms for the legal wording; we could not load the terms or sweeps-rules pages on 6 October 2026 because stake.us served a Cloudflare human-verification challenge to our fetch, so the help centre is the operator source we can cite.

The list moved in 2025 and 2026 because the law moved. Montana’s SB 555 took effect 1 October 2025; California’s AB 831 took effect 1 January 2026; Connecticut, New Jersey and New York passed dual-currency bans in 2025; Indiana’s ban took effect 1 July 2026; Maine phased the model out during 2026. Our sweepstakes casino ban tracker covers each statute, and the state pages for California, New York and Florida go deeper. Third-party guides read the same day disagreed on the count (one listed 17 states, another 22), which is exactly why the operator’s own page should be your reference at sign-up.

Who Runs Stake.us?

This is the one question we could not answer from a primary source on publication day. Third-party guides name Sweepsteaks Limited, a Cyprus company, as the operating entity behind Stake.us, and the brand is openly marketed as the US arm of the Stake brand. We could not verify the Sweepsteaks Limited name or its registration number against Stake.us’s own terms on 6 October 2026 because those pages were behind the bot check described above. We flag this plainly rather than copy a company name we have not read on the operator’s site. What is verifiable is the help centre (help.stake.us), the Trustpilot profile claimed in December 2022, and continuous operation since 2022 that our Stake.us review documents.

Does Stake.us Pay Out?

Redemption is the sweepstakes equivalent of a withdrawal. The help centre explains that once you hold enough Stake Cash to meet the redemption minimum, you go to Wallet, then Redeem, and confirm with a two-factor or emailed code. Prizes are paid in cryptocurrency (BTC, ETH, LTC) or gift cards. Our review records a minimum redemption threshold, a playthrough on bonus Stake Cash (commonly 3x) and a typical wait of around 24 hours after approval; third-party guides read on 6 October 2026 quote minimums between 40 and 75 Stake Cash, and the figure appears to change with promotions, so treat the number shown in your own wallet as the only reliable one.

Verification is mandatory before the first redemption. A help-centre article explains the two reasons: to confirm players "come from the allowed states" and to keep the platform "off-limits to those below 21". Stake.us uses Veriff for the document check. If you registered under a name that does not match your ID, or from a restricted state, the redemption is where that surfaces. The age rule is 21, not 18, which is stricter than most real-money crypto sites.

What Do Players Complain About?

Trustpilot, read 6 October 2026, shows a 4.4/5 TrustScore from 18,705 reviews: 76% five-star, 10% four-star and 8% one-star. That is the largest review base of any site covered in our trust guides and one of the strongest ratios. Trustpilot shows no fake-review flag; it displays its standard gambling notice asking readers to check the company’s licence with their regulator, which in a sweepstakes context has no answer. The visible one-star reviews are thin on redemption disputes; the clearest recurring complaint is game selection, with one reviewer noting the absence of Pragmatic Play titles. Casino Guru and AskGamblers do not maintain safety indexes for sweepstakes casinos, so there is no complaint-resolution record comparable to the real-money sites.

The absence of a regulator is the complaint channel’s weakness. If Stake.us declines a redemption, your options are support, Trustpilot and, in some states, the attorney general’s consumer-protection office. There is no licensing body to appeal to, and the terms are governed by whatever jurisdiction they name, which we could not read on publication day.

Is Stake.us a Scam?

No, on the evidence available. A scam would show a pattern of unpaid redemptions and a review base dominated by them; Stake.us shows an 8% one-star share across more than eighteen thousand reviews, operation since 2022, a claimed and actively managed Trustpilot profile, and a free-entry route that it publishes because the legal model depends on it. The honest caveats are structural rather than behavioural: no licence, no regulator, a legal theory that 22 states have now rejected, and a 21+ KYC gate that will stop a redemption cold if your registration details were wrong.

One genuine strength carries over from Stake.com. The Stake Originals on Stake.us are provably fair, and the help centre not only explains how to recompute a result from the server seed, client seed and nonce but also points players to independent third-party verifiers rather than only its own calculator. You can check any Dice, Crash, Plinko, Mines or Limbo round in our provably fair verifier. Third-party slots are RNG-certified and cannot be checked that way.

How Does Stake.us Compare?

Stake.us competes with other sweepstakes brands, not with crypto casinos. Our US crypto casinos page sets out the full picture: every Curaçao-licensed crypto casino we rank excludes the United States, the states with licensed real-money iGaming do not accept crypto, and the sweepstakes route is the lawful middle ground where it survives. Within that category, Stake.us is the largest flow we track: roughly $95.4M of crypto-paid Gold Coin purchases in the 30 days to 26 October 2026, per the review. It scores 8.4/10 there, with redemption ease (7.2) and state availability (7.5) as the weakest sub-scores.

If you are in a restricted state, the safe answer is not a VPN. Verification checks state of residence at redemption, and a mismatch forfeits the balance. Use a state-licensed operator where one exists, or a free-to-play social casino with no redemption at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stake.us is available in 28 states and blocked in 22. Its help centre, updated 10 July 2026, lists Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and West Virginia as restricted. The list changes as states pass sweepstakes bans, so check the help centre on the day you register.
Stake.us is legit as a sweepstakes social casino. It has run since 2022, holds a 4.4/5 Trustpilot score from 18,705 reviews with only 8% one-star, and publishes a free-entry route. It is not licensed as a gambling operator because the sweepstakes model is built to fall outside gambling law, which means there is no regulator to appeal to if a redemption is refused.
Yes. Stake.us’s help centre states the platform is exclusively for users aged 21 or older, citing section 4.b of its Terms of Service, and its verification process exists partly to enforce that. Accounts created under 21 are held until the user comes of age. This is stricter than the 18+ rule at most real-money crypto casinos.
No. Stake.com is a Curaçao-licensed real-money crypto casino and sportsbook that excludes US players. Stake.us is a US-only sweepstakes social casino with no sportsbook, no crypto wagering and no real-money bets; you play with Gold Coins and Stake Cash and redeem Stake Cash for prizes. They share a brand and the Stake Originals games, nothing else.
Yes. Verification through Veriff is required before your first redemption. Stake.us says it checks that players are in an allowed state and are at least 21. A name, address or state that does not match your ID is the most common reason a redemption fails, so register with your real details from the start.
